Electrical Engineering Academy F.A.Q.

  1. For students enrolled in Math Rocks who have already completed Geometry, how would the math sequence proceed? I understand they would take Algebra 2 starting in 9th grade. However, since DC Algebra 1314 and DC Pre-Calculus 2312 aren’t offered in 10th grade, what math options would be available for them in 10th grade?

ANSWER: This was confirmed by our secondary Math Coordinator.  For Math Rocks students, they most likely will take AP PreCalculus as a 10th grader. This course is offered at all 9-10 campuses. Then their path could diverge. Here is our flowchart of possible course paths in Senior High.

  2.  What about kids who are in Pace, can they continue at Jasper?

ANSWER: Students in PACE will be able to continue in the program at Jasper.

  3. Regarding the AP courses listed, are the fees waived under this program, or does that apply only to the DC courses?

ANSWER: AP Exam fees are paid prior to the registration deadline of November 15 and are collected on the campus. Most exams are $99 and F/R lunch kids pay $26 (possibly around $2 or so more for campuses that use the Total Registration system).
East Texas A&M University credits, textbooks and fees will be no charge to students in the Electrical Engineering Academy.

  4. Can you confirm that all AP and DC classes are transferable to other Texas colleges, such as Texas A&M or UT Austin, which she is considering?

ANSWER: Each college or university determines how they will apply AP scores.  For example, some AP scores could be accepted as an elective credit instead of the similar course at the university.  However, the dual credit courses we are offering will include the core classes that every public university in Texas offers.  The engineering courses we will offer are courses needed for this program.

  5. My son is currently in Math Rocks and PACE programs through Plano ISD and wanted to know if his participation in these programs would be disrupted or affected if he enrolled in this Academy?

ANSWER: There would be no disruption to your son’s advanced math or PACE participation, if he also joins the Electrical Engineering Academy cohort.

  6. Will there be any conflicts in a student's schedule if they are enrolled in the Electrical Engineering Academy and participating in sports or fine arts?

ANSWER: As students work through the program, there could be future scheduling conflicts or the need to spend more time on academics, that would be a decision that should be made in consultation with the student's counselor and parents.
